Teeth, Teeth, Teeth!

Dental Health Week in 1st grade:
Singing along to this song:
Figuring out the reason for flossing...
My teeth (aka gloved fingers) are filthy!  I had been eating chocolate pudding.
Brushing off all of my teeth..trying to get them squeaky clean!
Looks good from the front!  Looks great from the back!
...But wait! Ah!  Look at all of the gunk left between my teeth!  (Cue 1st grade gasps.. :) :) ..)
 Yes, I am a "professional floss modeler"..Hehe.. ;)
Getting ready to practice "flossing" our Lego teeth...
Look at all of that gunk that came out!  Yuck!!
Smashing their "pizza" on their "teeth"..getting to decide what "food" the playdough would represent was their favorite part!
Using great teamwork to floss those teeth!!
Practicing our brushing...small circles, instead of "back and forth"..
Listening to our special guests, Dr. Deal's staff!
 Checking out real dental x-rays
Thank you, Dr. Deal!! :)

Our experiment...what happens to your teeth when you don't brush?  The eggs represented our teeth.  We soaked the top one in vinegar, the middle one in grape juice, and the bottom egg in coke for an entire week.  The kids loved seeing the changes in the eggs each day.  After 1 day, we could still brush away the stains.  At the end of the week...yuck!!  The vinegar had eaten away the entire shell..it was a swollen, mushy mess!  The grape juice egg was starting to rott..bluah!  The coke egg was so stained that we couldn't scrub it clean...ick!
