Rain Cloud in a Cup

Take a peek at the "Rain Cloud in a Cup" experiment.  Clouds are made of water vapor and water/ice particles.  Water is evaporated up into the clouds.  They can only hold so much water, before something has to happen...it has to RAIN!  Teams worked together to add water to their clouds and watch it rain down.  I was trying to snap a picture of each group's cup (since they all looked completely different), but a giant blue-water spill gave me another job. ;)  Read all the way to the bottom of this post, to see directions on how to do this experiment at home.  I've heard several say they already went home and tried it again.

It's starting to rain!!  Check out those streaks coming down from the clouds!
Can you feel the excitement from this picture??  This face makes my heart happy!  I love it when they eat up learning.

It rained all the way down to the ground.
Want to make your own rain cloud in a cup?
Step 1: fill a clear cup 3/4's of the way with water
Step 2: add a "cloud" of shaving cream to cover the top
Step 3: drop colored water (food coloring & water mix) into the cloud
Step 4: observe your cloud swell as it absorbs the water and eventually rain down in streaks
Step 5: smile..because you know you're having so much fun learning about rain clouds.. :)
