I just had to share this...I wish you could hear them! Emotional teacher moment--My 1st grade babies are growing up...sniff, sniff.. The "Green Fish" reading group has been working on questioning and creating questions from their non-fiction books. They were sharing the questions they had written about the info in Eggs to ask their teammates...They were determined to stump the group! "Well....can anyone tell me why..." "I have a tricky one! Who knows where..." "Get ready for this one, guys! How many eggs does..."
No matter what book it is, have your first grader write down questions about the info in the book. This gives them great practice with writing question words/capitalization/punctuation and helps them practice comprehension skills at the same time. They can ask YOU their questions! :)
