Clouds

We have been learning about the weather.  Last week, we found out that the clouds can help us predict the weather.  Seeing Cumulus, Stratus, Cirrus, and Cumulonimbus clouds can tell you different things about the upcoming forecast.  We made "cloud finders" and headed outside to see what types of clouds we could spot.  We picked a FABULOUS day/time, because we were able to see THREE different types of clouds at one time!  Check out the kids below!

I loved seeing them get so excited, when they figured out which types of clouds were in the sky!
Take a look at some of the different clouds we spotted that day!
We thought these were Cirrus clouds.  They were wispy, like horse tails or feathers.  Cirrus clouds can have ice particles in them, since they are very high.

We thought these were Stratus clouds.  Stratus clouds look stacked or layered.  They hang very low and can cover the sky like a blanket.  They are slow moving, and if they stay still for too long can turn to rain clouds!
If you look right in the middle of this picture, you can see one cloud that we thought looked like a Cumulus cloud.  It was hard to spot but looked completely different than the others.  Cumulus are big, puffy, white, fluffy clouds that look like cotton balls.  These are the clouds that you can imagine look like different creatures floating through the sky.  They mean fair weather.
