More Tens Partners Practice

"Tens Partners" are numbers that can be added together to make 10.  Using these "tens partners" can be a helpful strategy when solving math problems, so we spent some time going back over the ways to decompose the number 10. We built this post-it note chart to help visualize the stair-steps and how the addition facts are related to each other.
Then, we made our "tens partners" bracelets...10 beads on a pipe cleaner. :)  We practiced sliding the beads to show the addition facts that total 10 (9+1, 8+2, 7+3, etc).  The kiddos went back to their seats to use their bracelets to build/record all of the facts.  Several of my sweet firsties even wore their bracelets out to recess, to practice on the playground. :)  They must know how to make their teacher proud!
