We've been working hard on learning to measure length! We spent a week measuring with nonstandard units (links, tiles, cubes, LIZARDS!).
Here are the rules for measuring with nonstandard units:
*Use multiple copies of the same object
*Start at one end and measure all the way to the other end
*Don't overlap any pieces or leave any gaps
*Use words like "about, a little more/less than" if it is not exact
In these photos, partners were working to measure arms/legs/hands/shoes in LIZARDS, just like in the story The Crocodile's Coat! :)
We didn't measure in lizards :) every day...Be sure to check out your child's footprint measurement, when they bring their paper home this week. You can see all of the vocabulary and labeling they used to record their measurements.
