We Started Centers Today!

We started going to centers today!!  The kids have been waiting and waiting for this!  Students go to a literacy center to work on skill practice activities with a partner, while they wait for me to call their reading group to our group table.  I snapped a few pictures just for you, in between meeting with groups today.  Don't you just love their smiles?  Center time is always a 1st grade favorite, because it gives the kiddos time to get up and moving out of their seats/off the carpet and interact with a buddy...all while still learning, of course. :)  Here were some of today's top center activities:
In the Math Center, building magnetic numbers as high as they could count was fun
Kicked back, enjoying the story Food Alphabet in the Listening Center
Finding interesting words in the dictionary, to add to our vocabulary wall in Vocab Center
Sorting transportation pictures by land, air, or water in our Social Science Center
Hunting words that start with each letter of the alphabet, in Write the Room Center
Selecting books about our favorite things to read, in Reading Center
Stringing short a words with letter beads, in Word Work Center
In Boom Boom Center, building sight words on the Lite Brite

Hunting for & filling in the missing letters on the keyboard, in Computer Center
Writing stories about a 1st grade friend, in the Writing Center

Building a snazzy poem with our friends' names, in Name Center

Alphabet puzzles & stamping missing letters, in ABC Center
