Celebrate Freedom Week

I've been a busy, busy teacher lately...and an absent blogger!!  Let me catch you up to speed on a few classroom happenings!  First up=Celebrate Freedom Week!  We spent a week "celebrating our freedom," by learning all about the good ol' U.S.A.  Government, American symbols, etc...Here are a few highlights:

Sargent Knapp, from the U.S. Marines, was our special guest speaker.
Sgt Knapp told us all about the different U.S.A. symbols on his uniform.  He even passed around his hat for the kiddos to get an upclose look at the eagle, globe, & anchor symbol.  This was on every single button on his uniform, as well as his hat.
My favorite part of his presentation..when he had the kids stand and respectfully say The Pledge of Allegiance to the American flag. :)
Demonstrating their sword routine:

Sgt Knapp answer LOTS of 1st grade questions about America.
We finished up our fun week, by enjoying Celebrate Freedom Punch!  This tasty red, white, & blue treat was simply blueberries, frozen yogurt, & red punch/juice.  Stick in a straw and add some U.S.A. music to sing along to, and you've got a great way to end the week in 1st grade! :)
