Part of the new Common Core standards in 1st grade is to teach the kids to use technology to publish their writing. They have been practicing typing stories out of their journals, when they go to our classroom Computer Center once a week. To make it more exciting, I introduced to them how they could type their stories on our blog to share with all of their family/friends. We created a "Student Blogger" tab at the top of the screen, so that all of their typing will be in one place.
Here's a picture of the very first student blogger. He got to sit at my computer, so that his typing would project on the SMARTboard for everyone to see. They cheered him on, giving advice on capitals and periods as he typed. I've had lots of requests from the kids to blog, so keep your eyes peeled for your sweet kiddo's story to be posted.
